The interview is where the council collects the facts it uses to decide what help you get. A little preparation makes it much less stressful.
Key points
- Bring photo ID, benefit letters, any notice or tenancy papers, proof of income and anything about your health or support needs.
- Explain why you cannot stay where you are and how your health, disability or support needs affect where you can live.
- Ask your support worker, an advice charity or a trusted person to come, or to join by phone.
- Ask for reasonable adjustments if you need them, such as breaks, a quiet room or questions in writing.
- Take notes. Ask what happens next and when, and ask for the decision in writing.
A tip
If you do not understand a question, say so. It is fine to ask them to explain it.
