You normally have to accept a claimant commitment to receive Universal Credit. Read it carefully, because it sets out what you are expected to do.

Key points

  • It is a record of what you agree to do, such as looking for work or preparing for it.
  • It should take account of health conditions, disabilities, caring duties and other limits.
  • You can ask for it to be changed if it is not realistic.
  • If you do not meet the requirements without a good reason, your payment can be reduced.
  • Keep a copy and check your journal for updates.

A tip

If you cannot meet a requirement, tell your work coach and explain why with evidence.
